Judge Approves Two Witnesses For Morales Defense

BENZIE CO. – The woman accused of killing her newborn baby in Benzie County last July was back in court Thursday afternoon. The attorney for Alyce Morales filed a motion asking the court to pay for two expert witnesses to testify in the case. Williams wants to hire a forensic pathologist and a neonatologist. When the prosecutor did not object, the judge approved the request.

“Everyone knows that there’s an injury, but what caused the injury?” said Jesse Williams, the attorney for the defense. “That’s the million-dollar question: What caused the injury? There’s a multitude of explanations, so we have to have experts to assist in deciphering the evidence that’s available.”

Morales is being charged with one count of open murder and one count of manslaughter in the death of her newborn baby at the Platte River Campground.
